STUDIO FEST Sept. 4th 2011

The Szumylo Team : brewing the Westnorth Watermelon Wheat beer.
This is the first stage of the process.  Malt gives the beer its color and flavor, and is also contains the sugar that is fermented into alcohol by the yeast.  In these pictures, we're adding the malt to boiling water.
 
Hops is another flavor element commonly added to beer.  In this picture we're adding an ounce of Hersbrucker Hops to the boiling mixture.  Once the malt and hops are added, the whole thing boils for an hour.

STUDIO FEST: is a free late summer garden festival of music, food friends and artful recreation. It's purpose is to raise funds to help cover the cost of on going cancer treatment for resident artist roycrosse. Music. An impressive collection of musicians will provide live music. Food and refreshments: We are launching "Westnorth Watermelon Wheat," a new beer crafted specially for the Fest by young (newly wed) brew masters, Aja and Dean Szumylo. Other delectable contribution from the famous aunts ( in law) of Allentown, PA., and the friends of Westnorth Studio.
